Hi Everyone :) I hope you all have had a good start to the week!
I thought I would share with you my favourite winter/ all time round skin saviours right now.
I would describe my skin type as extremeeeeeeeeely oily - ewwww, and I am prone to spots especially those under the skin - cystic type - leaves dark blemish - spot nightmares!
I've suffered with spot/acne problems since I was 11 and I am 21 now, so I know the pain, heartache and suffering it can cause :( I hope that some of these products may help some of you who also may suffer with bad skin so let me get on with it :)
1. Mario Badescu Special Healing Powder- £11.95
Product Description: A Sulfur based healing powder that absorbs excess oil and reduces redness and irritation caused by breakouts.
Now I absolutely love this stuff! I have been using this product for three years now and I promise you it lasts forever!! It is my go to product when I have a break out.
It's a light greenish powder that acts as a disinfectant calming the problem area. You simply apply it to the problem area as much or as little as desired. Although it doesn't state it in the product description I find that for me it helps reduce the size of my spots and gets rid of the breakouts much quicker than if I were to leave it untreated. What I like to do is apply the powder at night time after cleansing my face.
❤ Keiko Tip: It does come with a powder puff but personally for hygiene reasons I would recommend using a clean cotton ball/pad/bud or clean fingers to apply onto the problem area.
❤❤Keiko Tip: The green colour of the powder should counteract any redness of the problem area. I suggest applying it to the problem area after moisturising and before make-up application.
Product Description: Gentle foaming wash formulated with vitamin C and ginseng to invigorate and refresh the skin.
There is not much to say about this product except that it has been a staple skin care product for me since I can even remember. What I love about this face wash is that it leaves my skin feeling super clean, but it is even gentle enough to softly foam over my eyes when washing my face to get rid of any make-up residue. It leaves my face feeling fresh like all the dirt and oil from my face has been extracted, which is something that I want from my face wash. Highly Recommend!
❤ Keiko Tip: I use it at night too! Shhhhh :)
3. St Ives Invigorating Apricot Scrub - £1.99
Product Description: Deep cleansing formula that gently exfoliates. removing dull, dead skin cells. Contains more than 90% naturally derived ingredients. Promotes healthier looking, glowing skin in just 7 days.
I know the product description says 7 days healthier looking skin but with this bad boy you can see the difference after just one day. I like a scrub that feels like its a scrub...I am not a fan of scrubs with teeny tiny particles that you can't even feel when massaging onto the skin - bleugh, its just not for me. With this product you can feel the particles scuffing away dead skin cells which is what I love about it and after your face feels much softer and smoother.
❤ Keiko Tip: If you have very sensitive skin I would opt for the gentle version of the apricot scrub even though this scrub states for all skin types.
❤❤Keiko Tip: I use this 2 - 3 times a week in the shower.
4. Mario Badescu Special Cucumber Lotion £14.95
Product Description: Refreshing, disinfecting and deep cleaning astringent that is effective in drying up existing acne blemishes while preventing new eruptions.
This toner that has a acne fighting formula in it which removes excess dirt and oil from the skin. I am currently on my second bottle of this stuff, I had a couple months out of using this after my first bottle finished and I found that I was breaking out a lot more often (like all the time!) so I had to replenish and big breakouts have been keeping at bay phewwww :) I use this twice a day after my morn/night cleansing, it is so gross to see the grime that is on your face still even after cleansing but I find it so fascinating like Oooooo that was on my face lol good to know its gone.
*Another Mario Badescu product, but I have to say for people suffering with problematic skin I would highly recommend trying out some of their products if you are having no luck with other skin care products. I have tried a handful of their products and so far so good, it does what it says on the bottle.
❤ Keiko Tip: I would use a cotton ball rather than a cotton pad. I just find it removes a lot more of the surface dirt because of its texture rather than a pad that tends to just glide over the skin.
❤❤Keiko Tip:The bottle is not travel friendly...trust me *sigh*. I would recommend getting a smaller travel size friendly bottle to pour some of the product into when you need it on the go.
5. Indeed Labs Pepta Bright: Fade to Light - £29.99
Product Description: Intense brightening treatment, a cream serum to help improve skin clarity whilst diminishing the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation.
I'll be honest.. Before spending what I would consider a splurge on skincare, I had done no prior research into the product (very unlike me). All I had heard about was its sister product hydraluron and how amazing it was so I figured hey it must be good because its from the same brand Indeed Labs *shrugs*
But hoorah! couple of months down the line I can honestly say the impulse buy was worth it! I can see a difference to my skin, I've been using it for a couple of months now, and to be fair at first I didn't think it was doing much but now I can see it has evened up my skin tone, dark spots on my face from acne scarring is slowly disappearing.I am very happy with the results.
The company recommends using it twice a day but with my skin care routine I only feel comfortable using it once a day in the morning after a cleanse and tone. I can only imagine the difference if I used it twice a day.
✘Downfall- It has an awful scent to it but it fades away after a small time.
6. Duac Once Daily Gel - Prescription Only :(
Product Information: Contains active ingredients clindamycin phosphate and benzoyl peroxide to treat acne.
I just found out this product is prescription only but I swore I saw it on the shelves at boots to purchase as well, my mind must be going crazy!
However if you are prescribed this gel formula, again it takes time to see the effects but it has helped clear up any spots I do get and I would only apply to the problem area.
❤ Keiko Tip: If you are suffering from spots it is definitely worth seeing your doctor and they will be able to advise you what the best procedure is for your skin.
Well there you have it :) my 6 skin saviours! Links to all the products have been added to product title (minus duac once daily gel).I hope this has helped some of you and please feel free to ask any questions about the products listed and drop any suggestions you have for upcoming posts :D
Lots of Love
Rozeena
